Open Sea Lab

Web application which enables scientists, researchers, government and students to explore marine data via a clear map interface.

The project

Our team is working with the Flanders Marine Institute (Vlaams Instituut voor de Zee). The Flanders Marine Institute, or VLIZ, is a focal point for marine scientific research in Flanders. They focus on providing centralised services to the research community, educators, the general public, policymakers and the industry for access to the wealth of marine data collected by the number of organisations.

Open Sea Lab is a web application which enables scientists and researchers to explore marine data via a clear map interface.

Our #oSoc18 team is working on this visualisation. Examples of data displayed on the map are types of seafloor, chemical levels in the water and fisheries. Right now this data is available on different sites but being able to see all of them on one map will make it easier to compare and analyse the data.
