Fun and engaging solutions for exploring healthdata: an engaging data story that is tailored to the user and a data explorer.
HealtStory is a digital platform that visualises Belgian health data in a clear and understandable way. You can choose to either explore the data or to go on a journey. Exploring the data leads to an interactive data explorer while going on a journey provides you a tailor-made data story based on who you are and what medical conditions you would like to discover. This approach makes the data talk and is easy to use. It helps us understand the scale of these medical conditions and offers support to those suffering from them. We want to make them realise they are not alone.
The data explorer is an interactive application that allows the user to explore hospital data. The specific dataset covers beds, per department, per hospital over time. A user can interactively explore the data by selecting values for the different dimensions: hospital, department and time.
The story follows the path of a fictional character, having the same age and gender as the user, and living in the same province of Belgium. It has the same traits so the user identifies himself to the persona.
The data story has two goals:
Raising awareness about depression via qualitative and quantified information: what is depression, how many people are concerned, etc.
Displaying information about how many people are affected is an adequate way to help people suffering from the condition fighting the feeling of loneliness. Resources are also provided so they can reach support.
